John Dilworth

Bernhard Born 1784 Füssen, died 1854 Vienna Austria. Son of Joseph Anton Stoss, above. Moved to Vienna 1806 and became a citizen 1813. Work almost exclusively on Italian models. Fine imitations of Amati and Stradivari with orange and red-brown varnish of good quality. Stradivarian ideas instead of the usual Amati or Stainer type. One cornerless violin (guitar form) dated 1821 in the Museum of Vienna. Bernardus Stoss / fecit Viennae, 1837
