STARCHENKO, Matizs (STARR, Matthew) Born 1893 Latvia, died 1964 Santa Barbara, California USA. Violin and bow maker. Brought up in Siberia. Moved to Harbin, China and then to Brazil, where he began making violins. Established in Hollywood, California from 1948 under the name Matthew Starr. Finally settled in Santa Barbara 1962. 75 violins, 35 cellos, and a number of bows. [Wenberg]
