John Dilworth

SCHEVERLE, Johann Worked circa. 1731-1769 Prague Czech Republic. Born in Augsburg, Germany. Name rendered in many ways: Schäferle, Schefferle, Schwertle, and Schewerle. A virtuoso lutenist. Studied instrument making with J. Hellmer in Prague and worked with T. Edlingera. Became a citizen of Prague 1731. Few violins; one cello cited by Vannes. Klotz/Amati model with medium arch, rather large Stradivarian soundholes, and nicely concentric scroll with large throat. Good red-brown varnish. Joannes Scheverle fecit / Pragae, An. 17..
