John Dilworth
HULSKAMP, Gustav H. Worked circa. 1862 New York USA. Born Westphalia, Germany. Established in New York. Exhibited a novel violin at the London International Exhibition 1862: pressed plates, with adjustable internal tension device rather than a simple soundpost, single guitar-type circular soundhole, and one foot of the bridge extended to the back.
Cecie Stainer
b. in Westphalia. Settled in New York, U.S.A. In the 1862 London exhibition he exhibited violins made on a new pattern. Instead of the ordinary sound-holes, was one round hole in the middle of the violin, just below where the bow sets the strings in motion; other innovations were also made, but the result seems to have been that the tone suffered in quality.
