John Dilworth
GIBERTINI, Antonio Born 1797, died 1866 Parma Italy. Active in Parma 1820-1833, 1834-45 in Genoa, returning to Parma 1845. Known as a good repairer, working for Paganini on occasion. Received several medals at Milan and other cities for his supposed restoration of the lost art of Cremona. Subject of a pamphlet written by Carlo Pancaldi, published in Palermo 1845. Good workmanship on personalised Stradivari model; some Guarneri patterns. Red-brown oil varnish applied over yellow spirit ground.
