THORLEY, Thomas Worked circa. 1865-1879 Oldham and Manchester UK. Son and pupil of Nathaniel Thornley, above. Three instruments cited in Hill Archive: cello with flat arch, broad purfling with negligible edge flute, large head and ‘tawny varnish, probably oil’; small viola of 1879 with ‘exceptionally long’ soundholes and dark brown varnish; and a violin dated 1865.
